After a very long weekend and a very difficult conversations with my daughter about the tragedy in Newtown, CT on Friday, I am still left with a desire to help and the knowledge that there is just not much that anyone can do to make this any better. Time and prayers will be the only way to make it through the next several weeks and months before these families can even begin to pick up the pieces and try to carry on.
Though we mostly feel helpless and continue to pray for these families we can also help them make provisions for these difficult months ahead. The United Way of Western Connecticut has established a fund to assist the families who lost loved ones in Friday’s horrific tragedy. The United Way of Western Connecticut in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank has created the ‘Sandy Hook School Support Fund’ that will be able to provide support services to the families and community that has been affected.
These funds will be used to help the families with the financial burdens of funerals, time needed off work to grieve and care for their families, and to provide counseling and support to everyone effected in the community.
Even if you cannot give much, every little bit helps. If we all give just a little it will all add up and hopefully relieve some of the financial burden that these families do not need to be worrying about right now.
Thanks Heather, Casey and Elizabeth!
